Eric Brandstad’s Purple Urkle is a delicious cut of the classic, Mendo Purps.
It’s already super-popular at Homegrown. Our breeders and staff were HUGELY impressed with the happy high, fruity flavors and strong, sedative effects.
The high resin output makes this an excellent cultivar for producing shatter, rosin, and hashish, and you can be sure she’ll absolutely thrive in the greenhouse.
But why did Eric choose this particular pheno? Why does he have high hopes for this cultivar? And what else sets Eric Brandstad’s Purple Urkle apart from every other cannabis seed in our catalogue?
Eric Brandstad Purple Urkle feminized seeds deliver elite-quality Purple Urkle cannabis plants, the best you’ll ever experience.
While the plant itself needs an experienced hand, using feminized seeds makes growing flower way more straightforward.
No more hunting for males. No more pollinated crops. No reason to buy twice as many seeds as you need, to grow twice as many plants, only to remove half of them from the garden.
Homegrown’s feminized seeds deliver female plants 99% of the time. This means each plant has only a 1% chance of being male. In practical terms, this means virtually zero chance of males in your grow.
Using Eric Brandstad Purple Urkle feminized seeds, rather than Purple Urkle clones, has another advantage: stronger, healthier plants.
Clones don’t have taproots. They have weaker root structures and will inherit any diseases or problems from the mother plant.
Of course, we are biased here at Homegrown, but we believe in growing from seed. If only for the joy you feel when you see those first tiny leaves spreading under the light.
Eric Brandstad Purple Urkle feminized seeds are the best way to produce potent, delicious Purple Urkle cannabis. Cannabis you’ll be super-proud of.
Eric Brandstad’s Purple Urkle is indica-dominant with a heavy high.
She starts pretty sprightly - a tingly euphoria with plenty of mental energy. Great for small gatherings of close friends, maybe a bit of gaming, maybe a movie.
The mental liveliness soon melts into a thoughtful, easy-going stone. Every muscle in your body seems to relax into the high, fully committed to the buzz. There’s no question, this is a classic, night-time smoke.
Don't forget to prepare some snacks before you blaze up. You don’t want surprise munchies when you’re already glued to the couch!
Eric Brandstad Purple Urkle feminized tastes purple. If you want to argue that purple isn’t a flavor, you haven’t yet tasted Eric’s Urkle!
When Purple Urkle is in full flower, you’ll be walking around the plants in a happy trance. That aroma! It’s so gassy and fruity. It’s powerful and real. It’s almost touchable.
It perfectly predicts the deliciousness of the dried bud.
When you pop the jars after a good cure, when you crack open your first bud of Eric’s Purple Urkle, your world will stop. The berries, the sugar... and then the grapes. This is sweet Jesus and hallelujah. This is the bomb.
Blazing her up adds dank earth and gassy skunk, and the flavors linger exquisitely. Purple Urkle is a taste sensation.
She has a complex array of terpenes, but the main compounds responsible for the flavor profile are:
- Pinene (pine, rosemary, analgesic).
- Myrcene (pepper, spice, calming).
- Caryophyllene (black pepper, cloves, antioxidant).
The sweetness is down to the entourage effect of secondary terps like bisabolol and limonene, but these flavors are far more than the sum of their parts.
We can’t wait to hear your thoughts!

Eric Brandstad Purple Urkle feminized plants grow well indoors, yielding anywhere from 12 to 16 oz/m2 after 8 - 10 weeks of flowering.
Outdoors? Expect a much taller, much bigger plant, yielding 14 to 21 oz/plant with an October harvest. She’ll want a med-style climate, nothing too wet and no huge temp swings.
Eric’s Purple Urkle will appreciate lower humidity during flowering, so indoor growers especially should aim for a sub-50% RH.
You know she’s an ind-dom, so you’ll know she’ll grow thick and bushy. Keep on top of the pruning, make sure she has good airflow and regularly inspect for signs of mold or rot - especially if growing outdoors.
Indoor grows will benefit from a well-executed SCROG, but you should at least top and lollipop the Urkle - maximize those yields!
As always, stop HST at least a week before flipping, use Homegrown’s Organic nutes, and note the date you flipped! Our flowering times are super-accurate, but only useful if you know when you changed to 12/12.
Eric Brandstad Purple Urkle feminized traces its roots back to the late 80s, where breeders in California took a unique cut from locally available Mendocino Purps (The Purps/ Mendo Purps).
Mendo Purps was the High Times Strain of the Year in 2007, but we think Eric’s Purple Urkle is even better!
The relaxing and uplifting high from Eric Brandstad Purple Urkle has some medicinal potential, perhaps for conditions like a lack of appetite, ADD, ADHD, PTSD, nausea, arthritis, chronic pain, migraines, muscle spasms, anxiety, stress, and depression.
Insomniacs can often benefit from a potent, indica-dominant cultivar like Purple Urkle.
Are there any side effects? Dry mouth and red eyes are always a possibility, especially if you like smoking bowls, bongs or joints.
Overindulging can also result in dizziness, headaches, and anxiety.
The best advice? Take it easy and stay hydrated!

There are three types of marijuana seeds available:
- Feminized: 99.9% of Eric Brandstad Purple Urkle feminized seeds produce female-only plants, so no need to worry about the gender of your cultivar.
- Regular: Regular cannabis seeds have a 50:50 ratio to turn out either male or female.
- Autoflower: Autoflower seeds contain ruderalis genetics, making them flower with time, rather than depend on the photoperiod.
Males should be kept separate unless you intend to pollinate the females to produce seeds.
